Find the mean, median, and mode for the following data. For Problem C, also answer the two questions below. ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN TO RECEIVE CREDIT. 5, 7, 3, 8, 2, 3, 3, 1, 9 104, 139, 145, 150, 167, 205, 205, 20 van Loon et al. (2010) wanted to know if it was possible to prime the brain to make it more willing, ready, and able to respond to stimuli in the world around us. They used transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to get the cells of the brain fired up and ready to go. In TMS, a magnetic pulse is delivered to the cortex (they aimed the pulse at the motor cortex, the area of the brain responsible for making us move). Previous research had shown that TMS caused neurons to depolarize, making them ready to fire. Participants in this study were asked to squeeze a force sensor as soon as a picture appeared on a screen in front of them. Reaction time (the time between presentation of the picture and a squeeze to the force sensor) was measured both when TMS was presented and without TMS. The data shown in Table 4.9 are similar to what van Loon et al. found.

    • Find the mean, median, and mode for both conditions (with TMS and without TMS).
    • Are these two distributions normal or skewed? If skewed, are they positively or negatively skewed?
    • Did TMS affect reaction time? If so, in what way?
