Flu cases this past flu season in the Morton school system (n=500) were 15 per week. For the entire state, the weekly average was 16, and the standard deviation was 15.1. Are the kids in Morton as sick as the kids throughout the state?

a.Calculate the Standard Error of the Mean (SEM) by hand and show your work.

b.Using an alpha level = .05 for a two-tailed test, that means that we will put 2.5% (.025) in each tail to determine our critical values. What critical z-scores correspond to this two-tailed test with 2.5% in each tail? (Hint: you will need a positive and a negative z value).

c.Calculate your z score, making sure to use the SEM in your denominator. Show your work.

d.Compare your z score with the critical z-scores. Do you reject the null hypothesis or fail to reject the null? Why?

e.What do you conclude about the results of the study? Are the kids in Remulak as sick as the kids throughout the semester?
