A pump takes water at a rate of 250 gal/min from a large reservoir and delivers it to the bottom of an open elevated tank through a 3-in Schedule 40 pipe. The inlet to the pump is located 13 ft below the water surface in the reservoir, and the water level in the tank is constant at 160 ft above the reservoir surface. The suction line consists of 130 ft of 3-in Schedule 40 pipe with three 90 elbows and one gate valve, while the discharge line is 240 ft long of 3-in Schedule 40 pipe with five 90 elbows and two gate valves. The water temperature is constant at 70F. (a) What is the total discharge head? (b) Calculate the TDH and brake horsepower if pump efficiency is 70%. c) Calculate the available NPSH (d) The required NPSH is 18 ft. Would you expect a cavitation problem for this piping system
