Follow the FIRAC Method in regard to the case of J.T.Burnette, a Florida businessman and the husband of Trulieve Cannabis CEO Kim Rivers, who was sentencedto three years in federal prison and a $1.25 million fine for his conviction on bribery charges earlier this year. In August, Burnette was found guilty of participating in a multiyear scheme to extort bribery paymentsof $10,000 a month to a then-city commissioner in an effort to secure real estate development projects in Tallahassee. He was ordered to report to the Florida Bureau of Prisons on Jan. 9, 2022.

  • Structure into two major parts: 1) By following the F.I.R.A.C. Method, address the legal issue. You must clearly specify (e.g. requirements to prove negligence or the elements of a contract, etc.), and 2) then prepare a separate section, properly labeled, to describe the ethical dilemma of the chosen case, your learning points AND how you will apply the learning points in your future career. Please use appropriate headers.

This is what I've written so far....

On August 15, 2021, a grand jury found John Thomas (J.T.) Burnette guilty of one count of extortion, two counts of mail fraud, one violation of the travel act, and lying to the government. At his trial, the government presented evidence that Burnette engaged in multi-year scheme, extorting bribe payments from FBI undercover agents, with co-conspirator, former mayor and Tallahassee City Commissioner, Scott Maddox. Maddox was suspended from the Tallahassee City Commission and also sentenced to five years in prison for the same case, on counts of bribery, extortion, bank and wire fraud. Burnette was a wealthy businessman, developer, and entrepreneur.
