For Assignment #1 for this module, please complete the following steps:

Tip: Read the instructions carefully and pay attention to the details. As a reminder, this assignment is designed so that you can do it without having done the reading assignment or prior research. Therefore, there is no wrong answer - you will be graded based on following instructions and completing the assignment. I encourage you to answer these questions to the best of your knowledge as of right now.

Negligence is a type of tort that every business potentially faces as soon as it opens its doors.

But ... what is negligence?

The objective of this assignment is to start thinking about this question. To define it may not be as straightforward as you think. A good place to start is to come up with examples of negligence that we see in our everyday life.

STEP 1 - Choose a business.

Choose a business that you personally

(a) want to start, own, or work for; or

(b) already have started, currently own, or currently work for.

This can be any type of business (e.g., retail, services, online, manufacturing, etc.) in any industry.

STEP 2 - Think of possible ways of being negligent.

Think of at least three (3) potential situations where the business can be sued for negligence.

I encourage you to take a 360 view of the business. Consider every person who may be involved or interact with the business including those who own the business, those who purchase goods or services from the business, those who provide goods or services to the business, those who work for the business, etc. Where can negligence come up for each of these groups of persons?

(NOTE: Again, you do not need to do any research or the reading assignment prior to completing this assignment. You can respond based on common sense knowledge or instinct.)

STEP 3 - Post your response.

Post below your responses. Specifically:

      1. What is the business you personally want to or already have started/own/work for?
      2. What are the three (3) situations where it can be sued for negligence?

Here is an example (NOTE: You may not select this business or any grocery stores for your assignment - sorry!):

      1. Trader Joe's
      2. The three situations where the business may get sued for negligence are (1) slip and fall by a customer from a wet floor; (2) customers getting sick from bad food on the shelf; and (3) employee gets hurt because employer did not purchase proper equipment when shelving inventory.
