  1. For at least two of your peers, verify that their null and alternative hypothesis are written correctly. Then, state what the Type I error would be in the context of their hypothesis test, and state what the Type II error would be in the context of their hypothesis test. Refer to section 9.2 ofIntroduction to Statisticsby Barbara Illowsky & Susan Dean for guidance.

Peer 1. The hypothesis is a family practice doctor is trying a new blood pressure medication with all his obese patients. The doctor is trying to prove that the new blood pressure medication can reduce the blood pressure on these patients. For his test he checks the blood pressure of 50 patients before and after using the new drug for one month.

The hypothesis test was

Ho:u after=u before (the mean blood pressure is the same after and before using the drug)

HA:u after If the P value of the test is less that some significance level, then he can reject the null hypothesis and conclude that ne new blood pressure drug leads to reduce blood pressure in obese patients.

Peer 2. We can test the average survival rate of flu patients with high blood pressure history and no high blood pressure history. Therefore, hypothesis for the test will be this; I used the independent sample t-test to test the hypothesis. We can test the average survival rate of flu patients with high blood pressure history and no high blood pressure history. Therefore, hypothesis for the test will be:

NULL HYPOTHESIS (Ho):There is no significant variation in the mean survival rate of 100 flu patients with high blood pressure history and 100 Patients with no high blood pressure history.

Vs.

ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS(Ha):There is a significant difference in the mean survival rate of 100 flu patients with high blood pressure count and 100 patients with no high blood pressure history. If we get the results that sustain the claim in the alternative hypothesis, then we will need to provide better care and extra focus for patients with high blood pressure history. This will provide a decreased death rate due to the flu.
