For mammography, x-ray tubes generate x-rays by hitting high energy electrons on molybdenum targets. The generated x-ray spectrum has high peaks. The high peaks are characteristic x-rays from the electron shells of molybdenum. Molybdenum atomic number Z = 42. With the simple model discussed in class, the characteristic -ray energy of molybdenum should be keV. (a little different from the energy measured in experiment.)
