For my essay, I'm writing about how Canada's legal system has created a process where a person's conflict is taken away and has become the property of people with a higher power such as like the courts and lawyers. Nils Christie stated a person is often so thoroughly represented that they get denied the right to participate in their trials. I said that I agree with Christie because victims play an important role when it comes to trials because they can explain to the jury and judge their side of the story and make sure that the guilty is convicted. If that right is getting taken away from them, then this is a clear representation of how the courts are denying the victim the right to participate and have a voice in their trial. I was wondering if I have the right idea!
Does a victim play an important role in a criminal trial?
