For the assignment, you will ultimately create proposal for a law to help prevent overfishing. Be sure to go through all the above resources before completing this assignment because the information in them will be used in the proposal. Let's look at the criteria.
Since you have identified at least one commercially important species, let's look at the ocean species we see (or have seen) on many menus or in grocery stores. Select one of these species in the list below anddevelop a proposal that would set regulations for states to use to facilitate species recovery. Your proposal (3-4 pages) should include the following:
- Common menu or grocery store species: bluefin tuna, cod, haddock, Nassau grouper, snow crab, red snapper, Atlantic halibut, Chesapeake Bay oysters, swordfish, sharks (in general)
- background information on the species- (life cycle, food sources, other predators than your food chain)
- limiting factors that might adversely affect a growing population of your species
- information on how and when the organism is harvested by humans
- types of "ground rules" (defined in the above resources) could assist in the recovery of the organism
- a policy or regulation that, when enacted, would ensure the survival of the species yet maintain the industry which depends on harvests
- defense of your policy which explains how this policy will resolve the issue.
You're not above the law! Remember, the product
- Must include at least three citations in APA (or MLA) format to the resources not included in the module
- The entire document should be 3 or 4 pages in length
