For this activity, you will need to reach out to your local fire department and emergency services to discuss what type of community risk reduction programs they provide to their citizens. Depending on who you first make contact with, you might be transferred to a few different individuals before you find the right person to talk to, but do not let that discourage you. In your discussion, I am sure you will find that fire prevention will be the first thing that is brought up, and that is a community risk reduction program. But try and find out what else they might offer. For example, some fire departments offer child safety seat inspections and installations, bike helmet programs, wildfireresistancelandscape inspections, etc. In some cases, these are "thinking outside the box" type programs that you wouldn't think fit into the fire service. Remember, risk reduction is taking into account all hazards, no matter the type of hazard or the size.

In your interview with the fire official, address the following:

• What are the details of the program(s)?
• What are their purposes and why were they put in place?
• Whowas involved in the planning and development?
• How long has the program been in place, and how do they measure the success?
• What resources are needed?
• What is the cost (if any)?
• Was there a cost-benefit analysis done?
• Were there challenges in funding this program(s)?
• Was there an opportunity for there to be a public/private partnership, such as funding, donations, exposure, etc.)?
