For this discussion we get to go to Paris! Well, of course not really, but virtually. First, visit the Musee d'Orsay in Paris (D'Orsay Museum) at this linkLinks to an external site., which is a virtual tour where you may "wander" through the exhibits.  You will see a panel of featured paintings at the bottom, which you can click on to get a better look at the artwork and also read some background information.  To read more information, you need to click on the title of the piece, which will appear after you have selected it from the panel at the bottom. You can also use the navigational tools, like you would in Google maps, to "walk" past the exhibits, and though you can come across some pieces that have more information available, the featured works and descriptions are more easily accessed from the panel of pieces.

For this posting, choose a piece of artwork to write about.  If you read the descriptions of the different pieces, you may see that some of the artists were influenced by Japanese art or other Eastern influences.  After you have chosen the painting to write about, do more research on the artist and the piece of art. Then, answer the following questions for your posting:

What is the title of the piece, artist name, and when was it created? What does the painting depict, and was the artist trying to make any type of statement by creating this work? Was the artist influenced by the arts of Japan or other Eastern country? If so, how, and how did it manifest in the artwork?  Are non-European (that is, Asian, African, Middle Eastern, etc.) people represented in the artwork? If so, are they accurately portrayed, or is the "exotic" culture idealized in some way? Include the link to the artwork, if possible.  (When you are viewing the page for a featured piece, you can copy and paste the URL [web address] from that page into your posting, but make sure to hit return after you paste it into your posting, so it will become clickable.) In the video below I show you a little bit about how to navigate the virtual museum. Direct link to video:
