For example: if I would list the u-substitution technique as one of my techniques, my description would be something like: When the integrand has a part that is the of composition f(g(x)) of two functions (like sin(x2) ) and the derivative of the inside functions, except possibly the constant) is also in the integrand ( like x for the sin(x2) ), then u-substitution is a good method using u = the inside function (x2for the example).
