For those of you who have asked, I have decided to make anextra credit available.It is worth up to 15 points.Be forewarned that if you decide to do this project, I will be grading it more strictly than I have graded the mandatory assignments, because I am looking for you to really challenge yourself and show that you know more now than you did when the class began. I am also looking for you find enthusiasm for the law. Law affects all of us in our everyday work and private lives. The law belongs to all of you, not just lawyers and judges. So,even though this is a business law class, it might be the only exposure to studying the law you have and I would like you to leave with a sense of curiosityand engagement, and a desire to continue learning and questioning, not just what the rule is, but why the rule is from all points of view.

With that said, there are two options for the the project: Option One is for you to find a recent case (within the last 20-30 years if it's the Supreme Court, within the last 15 years if it is a federal circuit court decision) that established a new rule of law in an area that we have covered (and will be covering--agency and employment law) or an area thatinterests you that we could not get to.You would brief the case using IRAC like we did before, setting up the fact scenario, identify what the rule was before the case, relevant historical perspective, the holding and the impact it has had.Going a step further, you would say whether you agreedwith the majorityruling or, with one of the dissenting or concurring opinions. If you agree with the majority or a concurring opinion,then I would like you to discuss the logistical challenges that will be created to implement the ruling. If you agree with the dissent, discuss what political or policy factors you think influenced the majority'sdecision. I can suggest some if you need ideas.

Option Two, if you can't find an opinion to brief, or the case that interests you ended in settlement oris currently being tried, then I would like you to do what you did on the 3M case we just had. Set it up in the IRAC format,identify the issues, the parties, the positions of the parties, what area of the law the case involves and the rule of law/elements that are at issue. Then, instead of giving the holding,say which side you want to argue and what facts/discovery would be relevant to your case.
