For your final project, you will createfourone-page fact sheets (example in the module) where you will explore topics that are important to you. Please see the list of sample topics to get an idea of what I'm expecting. Your topics should relate to at least four different chapters (i.e. they can't all be about personal finance). You can choose topics relating to chapters 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, and/or 8. For extra points, you may incorporate information from multiple chapters into one of your fact sheets, but you still need four fact sheets from four different chapters. Chp 1: Thinking Critically 2: Approaches to problem solving 3: numbers in the real world 4: Managing Money 5: Statistical reasoning 6: Putting statistics to work 7: Probably: living with the odds 8: Exponential astonishment For example: If one of your fact sheets is about probability and the lottery (Chapter 7), your fact sheet might say:The average lottery player spends at least $600 per year on lottery tickets. If they invested that money in an IRA over a period of 40 years, it could grow to $100,000. Compare that to the expected value of $-1 of playing the lottery! This would blend topics from Chapter 7 (probability) and Chapter 4 (personal finance) but would still be consideredonefact sheet. You should:
-
- choose topics that you think are important and want to learn more about - YOUR FACT SHEETS SHOULD GO BEYOND OUR COURSE
- incorporate graphs, diagrams, and/or tables when appropriate (these can be copied and pasted from the internet as long as you cite them)
- explain the mathematics behind the idea you are discussing
- make the fact sheet easy to read
- use your own words
- submit a typed or mostly typed page
- include a work cited page for each fact sheet (any format is fine)
-
- reteach topics that I taught to you (i.e. do not give me a fact sheet explaining how to calculate measures of center or how to make a truth table)
- copy and paste whatever you find online
- incorporate so many images that there is only limited text
- write your fact sheet like an essay
- use vocabulary that you do not understand
