Forrest and Bubba were in the war together.As they walked through the jungle, they were ambushed with an air raid and Bubba was struck and mortally wounded.Bubba's body was sent home where he was given a military funeral.Bubba's parents were horrified and emotionally distraught when a group of hecklers appeared across the street and started shouting their awful opinions about Bubba and his alleged lifestyle.

After the war, Forrest returned to Greenbow, Alabama. The love of his life, Jenny was waitressing at the coffee shop.As she was bending down to get some peas and carrots for a customer, she heard a loud boom that shook the restaurant so hard, itcaused the huge coffee machine to fall on her head and cause an injury.The restaurant manager ran outside and saw that 2 truck drivers were busy carrying restaurant supplies and bumped into a high school student who had a backpack of gas cans that he was bringing to his car because it had run out of gas in front of the coffee shop.Meanwhile, Forrest was eating lunch at the coffee shop.He ordered Bubba Gump chowder.As the chowder was placed on the table, Forrest sneezed so forcefully that knocked the chowder onto his lap. The chowder was scalding hot and caused third degree burns on Forrest's thigh.Forrest required immediate attention and might need skin grafts as a result of the Bubba Gump chowder.Dorothy Harris, the school bus driver rushed Forrest to the hospital. She made a left-hand turn on Main Street and the summer sun hit her eyes.Just at that moment, Lt. Dan'spet bobcat named Dr. Pepper, lunged from the side road onto the school bus windshield.Dorothy wasn't speeding,jammed on the brakes.But it was too late, she struck and killed one of Forrest's fans, Jake, who was still running across the country.Even though Jake was wearing a bright yellow shirt with a smile face that said "Have a Nice Day" she didn't' see him in time.Lt. Dan told Dorothy it was all her fault that Dr. Pepper ran out.Dorothy got so mad at Lt. Dan that she punched him in the nose.

Mrs. Gump went to visit Forrest in the hospital and she brought him a box of chocolates.As she walked into the hospital, she slipped in the lobby where the cleaners had just washed the lobby floor. Mrs. Gump fell down and broke her arm. She wound up in the emergency room in the bed next to Forrest. The cleaning person who mopped the floor did not put out the yellow hazard sign as required by hospital policy and there no record that anyone had checked the lobby floor in quite a while.

While they were both in the hospital, some local kids heard that no one was at home.Forrest kept all of his ping pong paddles and his Bubba Gump equipment stored in a shed on his property.Earlier, some folkskept breaking into Forrest's shed to steal his stuff, so Forrest set up a sling shot to stop the intruders.When Amy and Billy, the kids on the bus who wouldn't let Forrest sit with them, heard the Gumps were in the hospital, they broke into the shed to steal his stuff.When they opened the door, Billy got hit in the face with the sling shot, causing severe pain and eye damage. The sling shot ball then ricocheted and hit Amy in the leg causing severe leg damage.They limped home and told their parents that Forrest tried to kill them.
