Four months after the merger between two auto insurance companies, Green Lizard and Global Promise, Priya Shama was hired to oversee the merger of the claims department for both companies. The newly merged companies will need to use one claims processing system within the next two years. Priya facilitated a meeting with the most senior managers on each claims team, James Lexi of Green Lizard and Mikhal Malak of Global Promise. She left the meeting extremely frustrated, as both James and Mikhal felt that their claims process was the best and the one to be adopted; none could think beyond the systems they had in place.
Priya decided to use some of the budgets she was given to hire a part-time Business Architecture consultant. This role will:
- Scope the business architecture work and determine the need of the newly merged organization
- Provide a plan to develop the process architecture for claims processing
- Provide a plan to develop the capability map for claims processing
- Provide a plan to measure business performance as it relates to claims processing
Priya has asked Mikhal and James to provide a process map to help ground the newly hired Business Architect (Exhibit C and D). She has also requested Sheila Morgan, VP of Human Resources, to provide capabilities currently within the organization that might be relevant to the merger of the claims system (Exhibit C and D).
