\fQuestion 1: The World Trade Organization (WTO) Report (Part I) [48 marks] The World Trade Organization (WTO) asks you to study the exports of goods, in abso- lute value, for the year 2018. In order to answer specic questions that they have, you need to download the Excel le titled ExceLAssignmentI. a. Go to the sheet titled Most Exporting Coantries. Bank the countries in descending order, in terms of exports. Look at the rst 10 countries. What do you observe that is odd? [4 marks] b. Take the odd row and remove it at the end of the list. Copy the rst 10 coun- tries and their exporting values (the last column) and paste them in the sheet titled It? Largest. Make sure that for a given row, the country and its location agree (if not, you made a mistake). Make a table with all four columns in your Word le (omit the row with the name Other). Comment the table. [4 marks] c. The WTO has added all the other countries together under the name Other in order to analyse all the countries. Explain why this is not a good idea. Once you are done, you can delete that row and focus only on the 10 most exporting countries. [4 marks] d. How many cases do we have? What are the variables and what types are they? Which variables are a label? [4 marks] e. The WTO wants to know which countries depend the most on their exports. Is the total amount of exports the best measure? If you answer yes, explain. If you answer no, explain and give another measure (Hint: a ratio with the exports as the numerator). How do we call a variable that combines several variables? [4 marks] f. Go to the sheet titled New Variable. Bank the countries in descending order. Copy the rst 10 countries and their values and paste them in the sheet titled Big 10. Make sure that for a given row, the country and its location agrees (if not, you made a mistake). Make a table with all four columns in your Word le. Comment the table and compare it with the table in b. [4 marks] g. Copy the sheet titled 10 Largest, move the new sheet after the sheet titled Big 10 and name it Bar graphs. Replace the column with the variable Location for the variable percent. A cell should calculate the percentage of exports done by the country at that row relative to the sum of exports for the 10 most exporting countries. Make a table with all four columns in your Word le. Comment the table. [4 marks] h. Make two bar graphs (one with the values and one with the percents) and put them in your Word le. Comment the graphs. [4 marks] i. Copy the sheet titled 16' Largest, move the new sheet after the sheet titled Bar graphs and name it Pie chart. Replace the column with the variable Location for the variable percent. Make a pie chart and put it in your Word le. Compare the pie chart with the bar graphs. [4 marks] j. Copy the sheet titled 10 Largest, move the new sheet after the sheet titled Pie chart and name it Histogram. Make a histogram (with 4 bins) and put it in your word le. Comment the histogram. What can you conclude about the distribution? [4 marks] k. Go to the sheet titled Time series and plot the evolution of the exports in the United States over time. Put it in your Word le. Comment the graph. What can explain the short period of decreased exports? [4 marks] 1. Copy the sheet titled Time series, move the new sheet after the sheet titled Time series and name it Normal quantiie plot. Generate a Normal quantile plot for the time series. Add the graph to the Word le. What are the steps required to generate this graph? Is the distribution Normal? Comment your graph. Otherwise, you will lose points. You will have to submit two files: an Excel file as well as a pdf file (generated from your Word file). The Excel file will show the TAs how you arrive to the results. The name of your two files should be as follows Assignment1_yourlastname_yourfirstname_yourstudentID. The submission is done through OnQ under Assessments/ Assignments/Excel/Assignment#1. Do not forget to add a presentation page to your Word file. A table that is generated in your Word file needs to have a title. Every column needs a name. Every row needs a name. A graph that is added to your Word file needs to have a title. The horizontal axis needs a name. The vertical axis needs a name. Add a legend to your graph when possible. Be as thorough as possible. Be as clear and as clean as possible.
