Frobisher Doors, LLC, is a long-established manufacturer of revolving doors. The sole member and director of the company is Martha Frobisher, the great-granddaughter of the company's founder. Frobisher has developed a new revolving door. The new feature is a system for reducing friction that allows the door to turn more easily. Pursuant to an order from Beblach Towers, Frobisher installs its new revolving door in the Beblach Towers apartment complex. Later that day Beblach personnel replace the original Frobisher glass with ornamental glass.

The first person to use the new door is Gabi, a tenant. Gabi enters the door running, as she is on her way home from a work-out. The new mechanism causes the door to spin faster than she expected. She stumbles and hits her head against the door. When she stands up and pushes the door again, an improperly installed brushing in the revolving mechanism comes loose. The loosened brushing is not sufficient to hold the weight of the door, due to the ornamental glass window installed by Beblach, and the entire door is dislodged, hitting Gabi on the head and on her arm. She goes to her apartment and, following a home remedy taught to her by her father, applies some butter to her injuries. Gabi bought the butter yesterday, but it had turned rancid due to delays in processing it at the creamery. The rancid butter causes an infection on Gabi's arm.
