Use your spreadsheet to generate a scatterplot, the regression line equation, and the correlation coefficient. Determine if your data set has outliers. If you decide to remove any outliers above, go find those data points in the columns and delete them. Did the slope, intercept, and correlation coefficient change dramatically? Looking at what those outliers represent in the data set, speculate why they do not follow the pattern of the rest of the data. Interpret what the slope and y-intercept mean in the context of your variables. Use units in your description. Identify one data point in your data set and compute its residual. Do you think there is a causal relationship between these variables (i.e., is it plausible that x causes y? is it plausible that y causes x?) Explain your reasoning. Identify two possible extraneous variables, and describe how each of them could affect both x and y.
