With the technological age, advancements in how we communicate and redefining of social interactions via web networking for everything from connecting over common interests, working from home opportunities, and the privilege of earning your degree online it is all the more important that we address how these exchanges cannot fully be a replacement for human interaction.
As Reznick states in the University Success guide in Chapter 1, "The keys to avoiding isolation are communication, collaboration, and networking" (2012). Without this outline in place to help keep us accountable and connected relationally, we run the risk of isolation. With the advantages for people in my stage of life, raising children and working full time, the online learning environment benefits me greatly. I feel it is more useful to include those who I interact with daily in my journey as part of my support system. "Engage others outside your class in a conversation about what you are studying. Share what you are learning with your family at dinner. Ask family members to help you study. Initiate conversations with co-workers about interesting or controversial topics you are studying at school and ask their opinion. If what you are studying relates to your workplace, ask your manager for advice on how he or she applies what you are learning in.
