The tool for assisting decision makers in determining choices under certain conditions I will be talking about for the discussion is decision tree. The decision tree is a graphical representation of all the possible solutions to a decision based on certain conditions. If it wasnt obvious it is coined decision tree due to the fact it starts with a single box (or root), then it branches off into several solutions, similar to a tree. I work in cybersecurity and the decision tree is used quite explicitly with a tool called a SIEM. SIEM stands for security information and even management. The underlying principle of basically every SIEM system are to aggregate relevant data from multiple sources, identify deviations from the norm and take the appropriate action. When a potential issue is detected, a SIEM might log additional information, generate an alert and instruct other security controls to stop an activitys progress. At the most simple level SIEMs are a console which collects logs every other device in a network and converts them into a common readable format. The portion where the decision tree comes into play is once you have all of these logs you can write custom rules in SIEMs to detect attacks or anomaly behavior. The system is capable of having multiple rules that can branch to other rules that can detect multiple attacks, based off this you can determine a decision or plan of action on how to mediate an attack.
