GEORGE TOWN, 31 October - A 33 years old man was sentenced to death by the High Court here for trafficking in more than 17gm of drugs more than two years ago. Mohd Sufian Hashim, who ran a business selling scarf, turned his head to shield his face from press photographers as he was led out of the courtroom yesterday. He was found guilty of trafficking in 17.13gm of heroin and monoacetylmorphine in Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, at about 2.20am on July 6, 2015. The offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. Penang High Court Judicial Commissioner Abdul Wahab Mohamed, in his judgment, said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Lawyer M.Puven represented Mohd Sufian Hashim while Deputy Public Prosecutor Ema Syafawti Abdul Wahab prosecuted.
