Problem Statement
A company manufactures airconditioners and fans. The assembly process for each is similar in that both require a certain amount of wiring and drilling. Each airconditioner takes 3 hours of wiring and 2 hours of drilling. Each must go through 2 hours of wiring and 1 hour of drilling. During the next production period, the 240 hours of wiring time is available, and up to 140 hours of drilling time may be used. Each airconditioner sold yields a profit of $25. Each fan yields a profit of $15. Determine a production mix of airconditioners and fans to maxmize profit.
Table 1.
Product Resource Requirements
Resources Air conditioner Fan Total available
Drilling time (hrs) 2 1 140
Wiring time (hrs) 3 2 240
Profit ($) 25 15
LP Model Formulation Steps
1. Define the decision variables - one variable per row. Format: Variable label = Variable name
A= Air conditioners
F= Fans
2. Define the objective function - Format: Max/Min = equation using variable labels and values
Maximize Profit= 25*A + 15*F
3. Define the constraints - one constraint per row. Provide a title for the constraint. Format = Title: equation
Drilling time: 2*A + 1*F <= 140
Wiring time: 3*A + 2*F <= 240
