Global Crisis Management
Since March 2020, the world has undergone a major health and financial crises due to the spread of COVID -19. As consumers, we have had to get used to a new way of purchasing, primarily through ecommerce. Also, as consumers we have had to learn to be patient - shipping times have gotten longer and supplies/products are often not available because suppliers are located far away....we have really learned what long lead times mean! Do people remember what it was like before COVID-19?? reflect on how and why global supply chains became so stressed during the pandemic. Now that the world is fully aware of what a supply chain is and does, a good question to ask is why supply chains moved overseas in the first place? Dig deep and research about why many supply chains moved out of the U.S. to China back in the 1980s and 1990s...the beginnings of globalization. Have overview of why manufacturing left the U.S. for China 5o years ago and how globalization helped China became a manufacturing giant.
- What was the main catalyst for manufacturing to move from the U.S. to China? What happened in China that helped develop a manufacturing economy there?
- how free trade/government intervention and tariffs/quotas helped create China's manufacturing economy.
