Go to the OSU homepage, open the interactive campus map and locate Kidder Hall. Choose three other buildings on campus. The buildings, including Kidder Hall, will form the corners of a quadrilateral. There cannot be any right angles or straight angles (meaning no 90 or 180) and the quadrilateral cannot be a rectangle. Locate the scale in the lower right of the map. It will display a distance in feet or meters; use whichever you prefer. Starting at Kidder Hall, estimate the distance to the rst building and write it in the box. Now, estimate the distance between the rst building and the second building and write it in the box. Estimate the distance from Kidder Hall to the second building and write it in the box. Use the law of cosines to determine the measure of the angle at the rst building formed by the line connecting the rst building to Kidder Hall and the line connecting the rst building to the second building. Write the angle in the box and include the main part of your calculation. 1

Estimate the distance from the second building to the third building and write it in the box. Estimate the distance from the rst building to the third building and write it in the box. Determine the measure of the angle at the second building formed by the line connecting the rst building to the second building and the line connecting the second building to the third building. Write the angle measure in the box and include the main part of your calculation. Estimate the distance from the third building to Kidder Hall using the map and write it in the box. Using the angles and distances you have, compute the distance between the third building and Kidder Hall. This will be a little dierent from your previous answer but should be fairly close.
