GRAPHICAL ANALYSIS LAB Purpose: To determine the relationship between mass and volume through the graphical analysis method. Equipment: electronic balance, aluminum or brass samples, water or alcohol, 2 liquid containers, 50 ml buret (measures volume) , vernier caliper (measures length), buret clamp, ring stand. Procedure: Part I. Measure the dimensions of the metal sample with the caliper. Calculate the volume and record in the table below. Mass the sample on the electronic balance and record in the appropriate space. Part II. obtain a quantity of assigned liquid in one of the two containers. Mass the other beaker making sure it is clean and dry. Pour the liquid into the buret 2 em above the 0-cm mark. open the stop cock to withdraw enough liquid to zero the liquid reading and simultaneously fill the tip of the buret. Record the initial reading of the buret and record below. Draw off the assigned amount of liquid into the massed container. Record the final reading of the buret in the table below. Data: eatiper and equate VOLUME (coxcermeterculp Mass ( q ) metal sample Mass of Mass of Mass of Buret Buret Volume beaker beaker (9 ) BFJ BFJ liquid reading reading of and (9 ) INITIAL FINAL Liquid 85.59 liquid ( m1 ) (ml ) (m1 ) (g ) 10.3 Doest matter liquid START anywere Calculations: Make a graph of the data collected by the class for each material assigned from the data tables on the back of this sheet.
