Grid View List View How twitter negatively effectively on the black lives matter movement Negative Effects of Twitter on the Black Lives Matter Movement While the black started protesting all the negatives associated against black discrimination, a section of respondents supported the actions that cause discomfort to black people. The main arguments include that the Black people while protesting if a white officer kills a black man but do not protest many black to black killings. If black lives matter, even if they are killed by black or white should not matter. There is a section of people who believe that this movement is not appropriate and they believe that the main agenda of the Black Lives Matter Movement is to just speak out against every issue that negatively impacts black people. With the free and rapid rise internet and social media websites like Twitter, they post their thoughts without actually understanding the sensitivity of the movement. In a nation that is still built on the supremacy of white people, the disparities in both the social and corporate world continue and these issues act like gravitational pull on the black community. To counter the Black Lives Matter movement, a new movement was started with the hash tag # All Lives Matter which gained momentum which reduced the effects of the original Black Lives Matter movement. The main goal of these movements is to reduce the credibility of BLM movement. They were quite successful in doing so as many people started posting comments on All Lives Matter movement against the Black Lives Matter movement which turned into a fight between the two movements without realizing the sensitivity of the issues faced in the society by the black people. It is a known fact that whites form the majority in the country. Therefore, in a social media website like Twitter, if it is a fight between the races, the number of people against the blacks will outnumber the whites. So, the twitter outrage diluted the main issue and made it into a fight of words. It is very difficult to understand the real issue if there is no communication with the black man or woman who actually face the struggle and then understand and analyze it without any bias. In a social media outrage, this cannot be represented properly in a few words which resulted in the dilution of the movement substantially. Conclusion and Opinion: Black Lives Matter is a movement that is started by a few people but spread because of social media like twitter. Therefore it is more of a digital movement and thus has to face the negative publicity. Since posting on Twitter is free and anyone can post whatever he or she feels without feeling sensitive, the movement is rendered little spineless because of the negative publicity. Many people lack interest and apathy which made many people stop caring about the movement. Thus, Twitter has a negative effect on the Black Lives Movement. I feel that people should sometimes understand the issue before posting in Twitter just with sentiment or like a herd. The response to a statement and outrage will not always be same and this differentiation should be maintained. The social justice should be more important and Black Lives Matters should actually be read as All Lives Matter. There is no need of a separate movement as there is a potent issue of race that is present in the society. It is a known fact that even today that blacks are looked at and treated differently and discrimination or suppression of anyone is not desired in the society. The culture of the country should change by bringing awareness and removing the inherent fear of black men in America and the Black Lives Matter movement should be supported heart fully.
