Grimm's Auto part has been manufacturing breaking systems for larger auto manufacturers Tor 20 years. Unfortunately sales have been declining over the last 5 or 6 years. At the beginning of this year management had to take some radical steps to attempt to return the company to profitability or face closure. Management gave voluntary redundancy packages to workers, which some availed of, but not enough. The company had to let more workers go. They also reduced workers wages by 10% in order to try and offset losses that the company has been struggling with. With the voluntary redundancies the company lost many experienced supervisors and have had to replace them and have chose to do so internally. The new supervisor have not been trained adequately and there have been reports of conflict as they and their coworkers adjust to their new role. The company has also changed their contracts which now makes overtime compulsory rather than optional. i. Which factor group has a greater influence on the regular workers at Grimm's Auto parts? Discuss your choice and give evidence (4 marks) ii. Using Hertzberg's theory, what would you do to manage and motivate the regular workers ( 3 marks)
