Competition can have positive and negative outcomes. Different aspects of life have competitive systems. In business, companies are tested and succeed based upon differentiation, efficiency, quality, etc.; employees demonstrate success through receiving extrinsic awards such as promotion and recognition. Everyday actions, such as shopping for the best price and value rewards the economic system of competition. Ethical business practices and stewardship are positive examples of a system of competition and Gruden (2021) writes that "God intended [competition] when He gave people greater talents in one area and gave other people greater talents in another area" (p. 65). Competition provides an opportunity to discover purpose.
