H Corporation manufactures a product that goes through two departments prior to completion - the Mixing Department followed by the Packaging Department. The following information is available about work in the first department, the Mixing Department, during June. Assume the company uses the weighted-average method. 1. Determine the equivalent units of Production for June for the Mixing Department for each of the Materials and the Conversion. These will be two different amounts. Equivalents units of Production = total completed + WIP * (units *\%) Materials =450,000+60,000=510,000 Conversion cost =450,000+20,000=470,000 2. Compute the costs per equivalent unit for June for the Mixing Department for each of the Materials and Conversion. These will be two different amounts. Cost per EU=(Beg Cost + Cost During Period )/EU of Production 3. Determine the total cost of ending work in process inventory. Total cost would be the sum of the cost for the materials plus the cost for the conversion. Cost per Ending WIP Inventory = (Ending WIP Equivalent Units) * Cost per Equivalent Unit 4. Determine the total cost of units transferred out to the Packaging Department. Total cost would be the sum of the cost for the units transferred out for materials plus the cost for the units transferred out for conversion. Cost per Unit Transferred Out Inventory =(# of units transferred out ) Cost per Equivalent Unit
