HC/2OZZI Use the information and diagram below to answer question 10. Ink jet printers work by sending a small drop of ink towards the media to be printed upon (e.g., paper). Ultra precise control over the ink drops is needed in order to effectively print. Each small ink drop travels past an electrode that gives it a charge. The charged ink drop passes through a uniform electric field generated by parallel plates. If a gap in the printing is needed (e.g., a white space) the plates are charged so the ink drop will continue to travel directly through to the "gutter".
