Hello Class, Looking back on a recent dispute I had with someone about working hours I would find it hard to be a mediator because I would have a difficult time evaluating, so I would prefer to be facilitative. If forced to evaluate, I would struggle with being impartial with this topic. The nature of the dispute or those involved would directly impact my ability to mediate the situation. I would have an easier time mediating if the situation was one that didn't impact me directly. if the Perhaps with more mediation experience, I would be able to improve my ability to be impartial and execute both styles effectively. Based on this information, I would choose transformative as the type of mediation I would focus on. I would choose this style because of the benefits of both parties understanding the sides of each other. If the parties involved understand the motivations of each other it lowers the chance of the issue arising again. It can also prevent future issues since the parties are better aware of how the other feels. In my experiences, people are more satisfied with the results of mediation when there is a fair outcome. If the dispute had been triggered by something with greater emotional stake, I would choose pure mediation to resolve the issue. In this particular situation there were no bounties to communication and the issue at hand was primarily due to a misunderstanding of the motivations of others. In my line of work, it is necessary for the parties involved to feel that they have some form of control over the results of the situation in order for the results to be long lasting. -Jerry
