Hello I would like some guidance on how I can test my hypothesis in SPSS off of a specific data set
Hello, my research report is going to look at if there is enough evidence in the data to suggest that having a combined income 100k and above is directly correlated to higher levels of happiness. So the null hypothesis is that a combined income of 100k does not create higher levels of happiness. And the alternate hypothesis is a combined income of 100k and above does create higher levels of happiness. Looking at the variables of INC1, INC2, and Happy to see if there is no relationship, null hypothesis, or if there is a relationship with would be the alternate hypothesis. Income in this case with both INC1 and INC2 is a quantitative continuous variable. The Happy Variable is a categorical ordinal variable. Based on the outcome, I will either reject or fail to reject my null hypothesis depending on the p-value. My predetermined level of rejecting the null hypothesis is .05 which is a common level in statistics. If I wanted to be more conservative, so I minimize the risk of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis (type I error), I could have the level be .01 but in most cases, in statistics, it is .05. I am wondering if there will be extraneous variables such as Education, etc. that can affect the outcome so will take a look at some possibilities in the data.
