Hello Im looking for any help at all on this:Inbound transportation is the process of moving goods from a supplier to your business. It's a
key part of the supply process as it ensures enough inventory to keep the business running
smoothly.
Inbound transportation differs from outbound transportation in that it focuses on bringing
products into your warehouse rather than shipping them out. The optimal inbound logistics
strategy varies depending on factors such as supplier location, distance, moves required, and
current rates. In many cases, businesses will work with freight carriers to execute inbound
transportation needs. A well-managed inbound logistics process can reduce costs and improve
supply chain performance.
The company is managing an inbound transportation network and needs your help to evaluate a
group of carriers supporting a particular warehouse (DC). In this case, the evaluation will be for
Distribution Center (DC) indicated in the dataset.
Attached you will find the dataset provided by the company. The dataset contains one year of
data for several carriers providing rate quotes for inbound transportation for a particular
destination distribution center. The dataset shows carrier rate quotes from all origins to a
particular DC. The fields in the dataset are:
Origin: This field indicates the origin of the shipment (city and state).
Origin Region: This field indicates the origin region of the shipment.
Destination: This field indicates the distribution center that receives the inbound
shipment.
Total # Moves: This reflects the total number of moves from the origin to the destination
DC in one year.
Miles: This reflects the distance in miles between the origin to the destination DC for
one move.
Carrier: This indicates the Carrier that provides the service to the destination
Rate: This reflects the freight rate quote for one move from origin to destination DC.
The manager would like to get help to analyze the dataset by evaluating potential relationships
between variables in order to do a carrier analysis. Assume a level of significance of 0.05. Top
management is interested in the following:
a. Is there a relationship between average rate per move and the number of carriers?
What does this tell you about the level of competition?
b. What is the impact of each carrier on the rate per move?
c. What are the recommendations for the top 20 routes by number of moves? Which
carrier(s) rate quotes would you select?
The following provides a basic outline for the analysis:
Describe the topic of the analysis and the main questions from the company.
Describe the dataset including the variable classification for each column. Be sure to
indicate the measurement scale and metrics. Please consider the added columns too.
Analyze the data
Pivot table:
a. First, do a pivot table by Origin (put Origin in Rows, average total # moves, average
miles, average rate and count of carrier in Values). This is Pivot Table A.
b. Copy-paste values the pivot table A in a different tab.
Descriptive Stats:
c. Do a summary statistics using Data > Data Analytics > Descriptive Statistics > Click on
Summary Statistics. At least for the following variables: average total # moves,
average Rate, and average Miles. Analyze the central tendency and dispersion.
d. Do a histogram at least for the following variables using Insert > Histogram icon:
average Total # moves, average Rate, and average Miles. Analyze the measurements
of shape.
Regression to assess level of competition:
e. Run a regression using Average rate as dependent variable and Average Total #
moves, Average miles and count of carriers as independent variables.
f. Analyze the following from the Excel Output:
i. Interpret the R square
ii. The overall significance of the regression. What are the hypotheses?
What is the decision rule? Is the regression significant?
iii. the significance of each coefficient. What are the hypotheses? What is
the decision rule? Is the coefficient significant?
iv. What can you conclude about the impact of the number of carriers on
the rates per move?
Regression for impact of carriers:
g. Use the full dataset. As the Carrier variable is a categorical one, please code this
variable with dummy variables. Add a number of columns equal to the numbers of
