Question:
Topic: How Will You Attain Your Career Goal?
Attaining your career objective is a series of steps that put you in the position where you are seen as the top candidate. Describe what steps you can take over the course of the next year to better position yourself to be the top candidate for your desire position. Be sure to state what position you are seeking to obtain and why the steps you are taking now will help you to achieve the position.
Classmate:
The position I am seeking to obtain within the criminal justice field would be, a crime scene investigator or something along those same lines. There are several steps I can take, to prepare myself to be a top candidate in this position. My first steps would be to continue my studies, get the best grades, and make sure I finish my current program. Next, I would make sure I know everything that I can find out about the position itself and what all it entails. You should not be looking for a job and don't have much if any, information about it. After I am sure I know everything there is to know, besides the things you actually learn on the job, I would start my search for openings. There are many ways to look for job openings such as, in person, online, job search engines, magazines, newspapers, etc. You don't want to just rely on one way to search for employment. This limits your opportunities. Also while job searching you want to network. As stated in chapter 12, it's not what you know, but who you know. Every contact could lead to an opportunity, or lead to another contact who may have what you're looking for. Contacts could be a number of people that you already know, or while job hunting you may meet some prospective contacts. I will make sure my resume is up to date, proofread it repeatedly, also having someone else look it over. I will make sure to include a cover letter, which is more professional. I will always be prepared, by looking my best at all times, keeping copies of my resume on hand, etc. I will be prepared for rejection, and not look at it negatively. Anyone I meet during the job search process such as prospective employers, whomever answers the phone while making cold calls, I will treat them professionally and polite. You don't want to burn bridges. I will commit to at least 35-40 hours of job searching a week, because all in all job searching is a job within itself.
