Methods

The purpose of this study is to understand the long-term effects of social media use on mental health. The study will be quantitative in nature and will use survey methodology to collect data. We aim to explore the relationships between social media use, depression, anxiety, social isolation, mental well-being, and self-esteem. In this study, we will test three hypotheses to understand the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes.

The first hypothesis suggests that regular and excessive use of social media is positively associated with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and social isolation. The second hypothesis states that social media use is negatively correlated with mental well-being and self-esteem. The third hypothesis posits that the frequency and type of social media use have a significant impact on mental health outcomes, with passive social media use being more harmful than active use. To test these hypotheses, we will collect data from a diverse sample of social media users through an online survey. The survey will measure social media use, depression, anxiety, social isolation, mental well-being, and self-esteem using validated scales. The data will be analyzed using statistical methods to explore the relationships between social media use and mental health outcomes.
