The company takes pride in taking care of their employees who in return will take care of the customer. The company hires based on a persons attitude as opposed to their technical skills. Marriot incorporates a personality test used to help determine whether a potential candidate is a good fit for the company. The strengths of recruiting employees this way help ensure an understanding of the companys expectations. The company also offers a game on Facebook which allows potential candidates to experiment with the roles of working in the hotel. This could help determine if this is a job they would ultimately be interested in before they even apply.

The negative aspect of Marriots hiring process could be missing out on potential employees that could be great additions to the team. Although having the right attitude is desired by the company, this can be learned by doing the job and understanding the way the company runs and the focuses on customer satisfaction. This process could also have an impact on the diversity of employees hired.

Marriot incorporates Maslows Hierarchy of Needs in many ways. Physiological needs are met by offering benefits for the health and well-being of the associates as well as employee discounts when traveling to help save money. Safety needs are provided by offering career development opportunities which help ensure job security. Love and belonging needs are addressed by having a daily 15-minute team huddle at the start of each shift which provides encouragement to staff. Esteem needs are met by the company offering a hire friendly, train technical approach encouraging employees to thrive and excel within the company. Last, self-actualization needs are met by supporting employees in advancing in their careers with the company.
