I did outside meditation time today. I couldn't find time to go into actual nature, and to be honest I wouldn't even know where to go when it's winter like it is now. I also hate the cold, so I sat outside in a chair on the back porch. I knew that was a place I could find time and be able to get to by myself a couple of times this week. I focused on my breathing for a second to get into the meditation mood, and then I just listened for a while. It was mostly quiet, and you couldn't hear anything besides the occasional car driving on the highway at the bottom of the hill. I could hear a little bit of sounds from my family inside of the house. It smelled like dirt to me, or maybe mud. It was cold, and after a while my face started to feel super cold and my nose hurt from it. I could see the trees were dead and there was snow on the ground but in patches. My mind often wandered to thinking I should wrap it up and go inside. It was beautiful though out there, all the trees are dead, but I was thinking there is something beautiful about all the deadness of winter. The sun was shining, and I could see clouds in the sky. Honestly a few times my mind wandered, and I became a bit homesick for a minute. Wishing I was home and closer to the sun. Then I brought myself back and tried to be present in the moment where I am. To be honest, I didn't do this for very long because it was so cold. But I did keep thinking about how it is nice sometimes to feel the cold air on your face. It makes you feel more alive and awake once it's over, maybe even more energetic.
