  1. Scenario 1: Assume your child needs a medication for a life-threatening illness.

Since there would be price ceiling on medications needed for my child, I would be very relieved. It would make it less likely for the price to be outrageous and for it to be more affordable for my child to get the medication they need. Price ceiling may negatively affect the pharmaceutical company if it becomes a higher increase in demand and they want to increase the rate when they are already capped out from the price ceiling. It may also impact their decision making when it comes to putting in more research since they wouldn't be able to make those at a higher price. However, there would be funding for research for new development, and the price ceiling should be high enough for the company to be okay with.

  1. Scenario 2: You would like to take a medication to achieve a healthy weight.

This is something I could see meeting the price ceiling even if it is not something that should necessarily do that. However, it has become such a norm for people to take medication for weight loss as well as having surgery to help weight loss. That being said, I could absolutely see the pharmaceutical company increasing the price on this medication as often as they could. I do not think the price ceiling would have any effects on the company as it is something that isn't a necessity for those who are choosing to take the medication but rather considered a want or a luxury.

  1. Scenario 1: Assume your child needs medication for a life-threatening illness.

Pro: Price ceilings will make medication more affordable and if I have a sick child, then I need things to be as affordable as they can get.

Con: When medicine becomes more affordable, it becomes the go-to medication to prescribe. This makes it a lot easier for medicine to sell out/ go out of stock, which is not ideal when my child is sick and needs their medication.

  1. Scenario 2: You would like to take a medication to achieve a healthy weight.

Pro: A price ceiling for medication that assists in weight loss would be similar to scenario 1. It would allow for the medication to be more affordable.

Con: Any medication that assists in weight loss normally does not stay in stock very long (was a pharmacy tech) and when it goes on back order, it stays there for a while. It becomes extremely hard to get that medication in stock. Also, a lot of the medications that help with weight loss double as diabetic medication which causes a problem for anyone using it for diabetes.

  1. How will price ceilings impact the pharmaceutical company that manufactures the medications? How will price ceilings affect the pharmaceutical company's production decisions? How will price ceilings impact the company's decisions to conduct further research into developing new drugs?

Price ceilings will impact the amount of money that these manufacturers are making off of these medications. This could result in them determining that it's no longer cost-effective to produce the medication, which would lead to shortages. As previously mentioned, price ceilings can affect production because they may conclude that they can't afford to continue producing the medication and either slow down production or stop it. Since a price cap has the potential to affect income, that can impact any ability to develop new drugs and/or conduct research.
