Here is the letter sent by an IT support person Outage Start approximately 1:00pm yesterday Outage Completion resolution in progress and unknown at this point (possibly 1-2 more hours) Systems Affected Emails leaving campus to students are extremely delayed Hi Everyone It seems that we have found a problem with a DNS record and that is affecting our emails that we sent to students it looks ike that emails sent after 1:00pm yesterday were still backed up in the outgoing queue on the server and had not left campus The emails are processing now They should be delivered within the next couple of hours CSD called the vendor for our outbound server and changes have been made to the settings in hopes to rectify this problem in the future. We wil continue to monitor the maii to ensure successful delivery. No emails have been lost, but they are extremely delayed Please describe a possible scenario in which DNS record affects emails sent to students and discuss how the problem can be resolved Please note that students' emails are hosted on Microsoft office385 platform and faculty emails are handled by a local Microsoft exchange server
