Objective: In this lab exercise we will he investigating the relationship between position, velocity, and acceleration along with the relationship between the graphs of position acceleration and velocity versUs time.. Using simulations, you will he able to drag objects back and forth in one diinension and observe the resulting position, velocityr and acceleration of the object. The simulation also allows you to mathematically enter an equation of position as a function of time. You will be entering several different equations involving position as a function of time and observing the resulting motion. Materials: a This handout In Attendance or viewing the mini-lecture demonstrating the simulation I Computer and Iota-met access to use the following simulation: I. Starting and Exploring the Simulation: Note: The figures shown below as well as the some of the controls may vary depending on the internet browser and hardware you are using. The figures and description below were generated by running the simulation by using: Internet Browser: Google Chrome Version 84.0.4147.135 Hardware: Apple macbook pro Operating System: macOS Monterey Version 12.0.1 Your hardware software do not need to be the same but there may be subtle differences in the response of the controls. For example, when we get to the section of input position versus time graphs I found I need to toggle between a couple of tabs on the simulation to bring the expression evaluator window back into view. I also found I needed to restart the entire simulation to restore scale to full scale on the graphs as sometimes the zoom-out button (magnifying glass with (-) sign inside grayed out.). In addition, once I started the expression evaluator the only way I was able to disable it was restarting the simulation. Purpose: To familiarize yourselves with the simulation along with the various windows and controls. 1) Start the simulation by clicking of the link above or by cutting and pasting the link into your browser. You should get a screen similar to figure 1 below (the annotations in the call out boxes will not be visible. You may also need to increase the size of your browser window to see the entire simulation. Clear the graphs. 5. With recording on grab and move the moving person back and forth from -6m to +6m. Several times until 20 seconds of data are recorded. Try to keep, as best you can, all plots on screen when doing this as the simulation limits how far you can zoom out the simulation. After 20 seconds or so stop moving the person and hit the pause button. While it may take several attempts, you should get a set of plots similar to figure 3 below. 6.
