Hey Boss, You asked for my thoughts on hiring an intern from Fanshawe, so here is what I have to say. First off - not sure if you knew this - there are some tricky legal provisions for internships in Canada. For instance, you can't have an intern do work that would bring money in - and you certainly can't fire one of us and have the intern do the work without pay :). So, basically, all you can do with an unpaid intern is have him follow one of us around to learn the ropes and give him small tasks to complete. I have a lot of work on my plate for the coming months, and I would gladly delegate my email correspondence to an intern to tell you the truth, but these kids don't have the most amazing writing skill. Plus, they'd complain that writing emails isn't really what they thought they'd do - as if they could be trusted with anything major from day one. But, you know, that's just what I think. I'm sure Amanda would be more than happy to take one of these young kids under her wing. I think I heard her talking a few days ago about community involvement, plus she has a teenage daughter - she must know how to deal with young students. Come to think about it, if we make it a habit of hiring interns each term, we could brag about it on our website. People tend to like it when a company they work with shows social responsibility. We'd be investing in the next generation, right? And tightening relations with the local schools. Who knows - good things may come out of this. So to conclude, perhaps - but we would have to draw up contracts, get an application process started, and all that. We should talk to someone in HR, too. In any case, this really translates into lots of working hours. Can we afford this?
