BILD 262: COSTING ASSIGNMENT 1 - INDIVIDUAL PROJECT INTRODUCTION This assignment is designed to progress you towards achieving BILD 262 course outline to obtain comprehensive knowledge on the basic principles of costing to understand theory in practice. Costing is the most crucial part in every construction project, associated with various phases from initiation till project handover. Due to market escalation, transportation due to geographical location of site, resource availability, etc., factors limit an accurate estimating for two different costing of two similar projects though. This course has been designed to provoke in students' critical analytical approach on understanding building drawings and quantifying the materials, and able to produce the schedule of quantities, and the schedule of rates by refereeing the market price. In order to estimate the costing of a project, you will be expected to select a building plan from the Plan Database of the Assignment Folder provided on BB. To carry on, you are expected to complete the following tasks for your allocated building: a) Develop a Schedule (Bills) of Quantities with rates for your specified project costing. This should adhere to the NZS4202 format and should include the relevant sections for the work. As a minimum, this should include the Preliminaries, Earthwork, Foundation, Plinth work, Concrete and/or Steelwork, Reinforcing, Walls including insulation, Roofing, Doors and Windows fixing, Carpentry, and Painting depending on what work has to be opened up to do the project costing. Possible mechanical work involved with plinth work should be defined. You will need to use some imagination for this part as to what work will be required. All work should be costed using QV Cost Builder available online. Talk with the Tutors and get their input. Some dimensions will be available from the report and also via provided drawings but not all.
