Hi everyone. Three facts I learned about the brain that I did not know before I read for this unit would be all the different parts of the cerebrum. I did not know much about the inner brain that consist of the hypothalamus, thalamus, hippocampus, and basal ganglia. I learned that the temporal lobes located just under the frontal lobes controls sounds like music you hear.

As for why we learn about the brain before we study psychology I think it is helpful to know how it works so we can study how it can be damaged and what causes can occur. Say we have a patient with multiple personalities. It may help to know what part of the brain to check for damage or extra stimulant.

I would chose to study Peripheral Neuropathy because my mother developed neuropathy as a result of her chemo treatment. Peripheral Neuropathy refers to many conditions that damage the nervous system. This is damage that causes the nerves in different areas to not respond correctly. Like the feet might tell the brain they are cold or you experience numbness or no feeling in different areas. If the nerves are damaged they do not relay the right message to the brain via the nervous system.
