I am studying k-independent families of hash functions.

I would like to know, how I would go about creating a k-independent family of hash functions.

Can you please explain a general approach to creating one (maybe picking the hash functions and proving that the family is really k-independent).

I am not looking for code, just a written explanation/prove.
