Hi! I have a discussion prompt that i was able to choose, so i chose:
How does the second law of thermodynamics play a role in movement across the concentration gradient?
This is my answer, i just want to make sure it's correct or if i needed to add anything else to clarify my response!
Diffusion is the sporadic movement of particles throughout the concentration gradient. The second law of thermodynamics states that entropy- the degree of disorder or randomness in a system- in this case, an isolated system can only increase. So, as the molecules are diffused across the gradient, according to the second law of thermodynamics, the entropy, or sporadic nature of the molecules will only increase, therefore diffusing the molecules at a faster rate.
