Hi. I need replies to these posts.
1. In warehousing, it is hard to understand the detailed processes of what happens because it is a complex and busy place. With this, statistical methods are used to improve the day-to-day operations and how customers behave and predict future market developments. By doing this, warehouses produce a lot of data which helps companies predict the required product amount to store for each item and the space necessary to house all the products. It also assists companies in getting the total number of employees and shifts needed.
Historical data is information gathered from past occasions relating to given issues, which can be used to determine crucial decisions made in the present and future (Bartholdi, III & Hackman, 2019). This offers company decision-makers an accurate assessment of the organization's historical performance. Companies can collect a lot of data and store it for long periods, which can help them know what their sales were last quarter. In addition, companies should have strategies for gathering, storing, and managing historical data. As a result, this information will always be available and straightforward to access and analyze.
The data management process of collecting, organizing, and storing it should not be considered e if it's an accurate, realistic prediction of future events. The information collected not only helps in predicting the future but also makes warehousing activities better. Furthermore, relying on this data can help predict risks and identify the potential for the near and long term.
The warehouse profiling activity, which entails detailed investigation and analytic evaluation of operations, items, and customer orders, usually considers data from the inventory, order master, and item master. The following are optional data sources that can be taken into consideration. Purchase order profile where there is a similarity in the client's order profile and also automation profile in which financial influences spread. The disruption to the global supply chain caused by the pandemic disrupted supply and demand entirely out of balance. This imbalance disrupted the data that could help understand the needs and patterns used in warehouse profiling.
2. In my opinion, historical data is a pretty good indicator of future behavior. I work in shipping, not warehousing, but we use historical volume in ocean trends for our customers for a lot. The historical data tells us seasonality and when volume spikes and dips. You use this for resource planning, as well capacity planning.
When analyzing data, you usually take out exceptions. You can take note of outliers that happen but they aren't necessarily used in planning future events. It can help you though better prepare for one-off situations.
Customer activity is the most important aspect but definitely seasonality should be taken into account.
Covid changed many aspects for warehousing. Companies wanted to keep more stock on the shelves. They wanted to manufacture closer to the warehouses to fulfill better. E- commerce went way
