We need to discuss Porter's Five Forces in my industry. This is about using the five forces in my industry like how does a business uses the five forces in their field. The two porters five forces that apply well to my industry, Life & Health Insurance, are substitute products/services and the threat of new entrants. First, substitute products is definitely a strong force in this industry as there are countless insurance companies, and each company has a variety of different products that can offer different benefits and can have a plethora of slight differences from the range of the free-look period up to riders that the policy can include; this is a strong force against insurance companies that ensures they cannot overcharge their products. On the other hand, the threat of new entrants is not as strong of a force because entry into the industry requires a lot of start-up costs, as well as licenses from the Bureau of Commissions, and also a little bit of brand loyalty, surprisingly, as some companies have been around for 100's of years and have built such a strong reputation.
