HI I want to make a lilttle chemistry show where I show how flames turn different colors when you burn salts and metals.

I am going to make a small fire in a bowl with some ethanol and burn put very small amounts of copper sulfate for green and potassium chloride for purple.

Is it safe to burn these two in the labaratory? Does it create any toxic gasses I should be aware of? I might have a fume hood, but it has been out of order for the last few months. Not sure if this is fixed.

I can also do it outside if this is better
