Hi i was hoping someone could look over my personal statement and give me specific feedback, constructive criticism and ultimately point out what I should fix, add or remove. Thank you "Patience is bitter, but its fruits are sweet." While this proverb has been a guiding principle for me, I only realized the significance of such sacrifices after witnessing my brother's journey through law school. My brother dedicated every moment of his undergraduate years to achieving academic excellence. He took bold risks and made steep sacrifices which granted him the ability to create meaningful changes for our family. Today, I am proud to say that my brother can enjoy the fruits of his labor - he is the founder of a successful law firm. In the same way, I hope to contribute to justice and create meaningful change - not only for my family, but for as many people as I may have the honor to help one day. This has been the driving force behind my decision to apply to law school.

My decision to pursue a career in law is not only due to my brother's influence but also stems from my own personal experiences and aspirations. Growing up as an Afghan Canadian I witnessed the hardships and injustices faced by my community both in Afghanistan and in Canada. My family and I have faced challenges and biases that reflect the struggles of newcomers in our society. I saw firsthand the hurdles my parents overcame to secure a future for our family from adapting to a new country where they felt like outsiders to dealing with discrimination in their daily lives. For example, despite earning a Master's in Electrical Engineering in Afghanistan, my father could not find a related job in Canada and had to resort to hard labor. Meanwhile, my mother, who was forced to leave her education due to war, could not pursue her dream of teaching here. These experiences fuel my determination to succeed in law school and honor my parents' sacrifices by advocating for those facing similar struggles. These experiences have fueled my passion to advocate for those who are marginalized and silenced. By establishing a charity for displaced Afghans and volunteering with organizations, like Islamic Relief, I have translated my drive for advocacy into definite action. I founded a charity that supports underprivileged people in Afghanistan. In the winter, we give out jackets to Afghan civilians who cannot afford them. We also assist families in need by covering their grocery expenses for the month. Thanks to these efforts, I was able to gather more than $4000, making a positive impact on the lives of many families. Furthermore, I have been working as an administrative assistant at my brother's law firm since June 2020, where I have gained insights that have further fueled my passion for pursuing a career in law.

I have been a board member of the Muslim Student Association both during high school and university. During high school, I participated in organizing food drives for those in need and fundraising for the school through community events. In university, I volunteered at community dinners. My team and I helped raise over $15,000 on different occasions for orphans and refugees. Additionally, I contributed to fundraising efforts for flood victims in Libya, successfully raising $8000 within a week with my team. Being apart of the Muslim Student Association board has helped me develop leadership skills, organizational skills and confidence in public speaking.

Another significant reason as to why I want to pursue law is the story of Adnan Syed. Syed's story took the Muslim community aback, as he was wrongfully convicted for 23 years. Reading Adnan's Story by Rabia Chaudry influenced my perspective on wrongly convicted cases. It inspired me to apply for the law program and address the flaws within the judicial system that allow for wrongful convictions. Watching his struggle and eventual acquittal emphasised the legal system's role in addressing errors and defending the innocent. It sparked my passion to support my community when they are marginalized and unheard, strengthening my commitment to seek fairness and justice through a legal profession.

Along with the interest of my brother's inspiration and the Adnan Syed case, I am also focused on the integration of artificial intelligence in the law world, recognizing its potential to integrate technological advancements. My experience working at my brother's law firm has enhanced my commercial awareness and exposed me to the efficiencies that AI can introduce. I want to integrate automated profile checks for clients to improve efficiency and client service. This allows for faster and more accurate compliance checks. AI will analyze property histories and conduct background checks using legal documents to ensure complete compliance with real estate law procedures. I aim to make legal services more accessible and efficient through technology.

Applying to the law program is not merely a step towards my career; it is a deep and personal commitment. It is a promise to leverage my education to overcome injustice, stand for those who feel voiceless, and honor the sacrifices my family made to provide me with opportunities they never had.
